Car Alarms: car repeatedly starts and wont stay on, designtech intl, remote car starter

Question
I have a 1994 Toyota RAV4 that came with a third-party Viper alarm system.  This was disconnected last year due to system going hay-wire on its own.  I have since purchased and had installed (by friend) the Ready Remote Car Starter (Model 23927) by DesignTech.  The car starter and remote locks are installed but I opted not to install the alarm system.

Here's the problem: the car will remotely start, stay engaged for about 30 seconds, cut off, start on its own again and repeat this cycle for a total of 3 times.  Then car stays off.

Another friend has looked at it already and thought the problem was that the ON/OFF control switch had to be turned off and then on to initialize the starter DAILY.  This did not solve the problem either.

HELP ... what could be the problem?

Karen

Answer
This really sounds like the remote start does not know the car is running.  The remote starter trying to start three times is the key here.  After the remote start engages the starter it monitors the vehicle to ensure it is running, if it is not running it will attempt to start again two more times.

If you hooked up the tachometer connection, did it verify that it learned the tachometer signal?

If you have it in the default voltage sensing mode, I would recommend hooking up the tachometer input as this is a much more reliable solution.

As far as the On/Off control switch initializing daily, this is a programmable option of the 23927 and you can turn it off to not require flipping the switch every time you wish to use the starter.

If you do not have the installation manual for that unit it can be found here:
