Car Alarms: Relays, diyer, car starter

Question
I just bought a car starter for my car and even if everyone tells me it should be professionally installed, I enjoy the challenge of doing things myself, but I would need a little guidance. I've been looking on the internet for instructions on using a relay (for example to bypass my clutch) but all the instructions I find are either incomplete or badly made. Could you shed some light on me? I'm not much of an electrician, but i'm a great DIYer and i'm convinced that with enough patience and a little help i'll be able to do this myself. Thanks!
