Car Alarms: 99 Camry Remote Start Problems, brain box, cylinder motor

Question
Good Day,
I have a 99 Camry with a Prestige (by Audiovox) alarm/starter. The starter was installed in 2003 and has worked well since.  This year I noticed the starter failed on several attempts.  The starter will start the engine(cold start) for about 5 seconds then shut off, and re-attempt 2 more times with the sames result.  However, if I manually start the car with my key, there are no problems.  Additionally, if I have driven the car for a bit and turn it off (ie I'm out shopping and go to the mall then come back to my car)and come back within an hour or so, the remote starter will start the car.  Any idea what might be causing the problem?  Am I causing damage to the car by trying to start it?  The cold start attempt doesn't sound like a regular start.  Can you help me out?

Answer
A couple of ideas crossed my mind when reading
your inquiry. The first is, are the required
ignition wires set up correctly? You may have
only one attatched, when there are 2 needed.

The other thought was that it's not reading
a tachometer source wire. This is possible
because many systems give you a tach or, tachless
option. If this is in tach mode, and the procedure
is not being followed or has lost it's
programing/learning capacity, then I suggest
locating the tach wire at the coil, getting
the tach wire from the remote start brain box,
and go through the learn routine in the manual
that came with it.

The wire needed in the 99 Camry is Black Or Gray
& On the 4 cylinder motor use the black wire in
the gray plug at the coil on the drivers side of
the motor.  On the 6 cylinder motor use the gray
wire located at the igniter on a bracket just in
front of the strut tower.
The module says Denso on it.

That should correct the speratic starting issue.

Try to check out both ideas to be certain.

Stay warm!
