Car Alarms: Volvo 440 SE Auto 1995 Year Model Alarm System, siren system, volvo 440

Question
Hi, AlarmTek:
This car has an original Volvo supplied, alarm (siren) system switched on & off with the remote transmitter of the central locking system, at the same time the hazard warning lights are activated to flash on & off.

Suddenly the alarm came on, with no sign of any theft / intrusion. I switched it off with the remote & reset it in the armed mode. within 20 mins it went off again ! This time I took the risk & left the car unlocked. It went off again ! I had a terrible time trying to stop it, as it ignored my frantic "stabs" at the remote "unlock" button ! It even carried on with the car started & put in to gear and shifting my parking place ! Then it stopped when I slammed down the rear (luggage) boot lid. It repeated this twice in the middle of the night (early hours of the morning) - in my own home drive way. The final time I had the car unlocked & the alarm supposedly "off" !! ? I finally took the fuse out of the fuse box marked "alarm siren/immobilize". But I cannot start the engine, with this "fuse" out of the slot, although I can crank the engine.
Tip : (1) The "bulb" faulty indicator is permanently alight on the dash console. I cannot find a burnt bulb any place on the car.
      (2) The Hood (roof) light does not operate when I open the car doors - as it normally used to. Even though it operates on my unlocking the car & starting it, then as it should it does turn off.
       (3) The Hood (roof) light does operate normally  when I manually slide the switch on it, to the " manually on position" and off, when I slide it to permanently off position. In the auto position, it operates as described in (2) above.

Can you make any sense off this situation ? bottom line is I am too scared to use the car, it is parked in the driveway, with the alarm fuse pulled out & the car immobilized !!

Please can you advise on possible solutions ? Local garages not interested suggest I take to a "Volvo Direct Dealer". I have none close by, as we live away in the country - and the closest "Volvo Direct Dealer" is many hundreds of miles away !

In desperation,
Regards,
Sam

Answer
Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart
(Go to: www.vehiclewires.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

If it does not work out this way,
you will have to replace the system
with one you know how to operate
and what to expect. Don't want to
get stuck in another bad situation.

Let me know what happens.

I hope the valet fix works. If not it's probably a volvo issue, and not an aftermarket one.

Cheers.
