Car Alarms: 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon alarm goes off every hour, subaru legacy outback, valet mode

Question
Problem: 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon's alarm goes off once an hour, from 10:00pm - 10:00am. Doesn't happen in the daytime. Nobody around the car gets any sleep; neighbors are planning revenge.
Pressing the remote Unlock button stops the alarm. I get up once an hour, all night long, to stop the chirping.

Attempted solutions:
1) used only key and door switch to lock doors at night, as that is supposed to disengage alarm system.
2) Pressed Valet button to disable alarm.
3) Took it to mechanic who couldn't find anything wrong.
4) Took it to dealer who couldn't recreate problem and put it back in Valet mode.

None of these operations were the correct solution. I was ready to cut the wire to the horn, permanently removing it, when a friend suggested removing the horn fuse at night. This works (yay!) but is not a long-term solution.

Ideal new state: alarm works, remote (keyless) entry works, alarm doesn't go off every hour at night. (What is with that, anyway? Temperature? Dewpoint? Darkness?)

Any suggestions would keep me from having to contort myself under the dash every night and morning to deal with the fuse.

Answer
It appears to have a faulty sensor.
I would get up in the dash and remove any
external sensor feeding to the alarm.
If the trouble stops, bingo. If not,
then we move on to removing the malfunctioning
device for repaur, or replacement.

safely are available at www.MYWIRES.com
