Car Alarms: excalibur AL900JX car alarm, 1989 cutlass ciera, valet mode

Question
I replaced steering column on 1989 cutlass ciera olds which consisted of four bolts and four electrical jacks. Everything on the column works key turns, lights go on, but car does not start, no cranking sound, nothing. I'am wondering if something in the alarm system is not working properly and causing the ignition not to crank and turn over. I found a part # AU-7 by the ignition wires and wonder if this part goes bad causing this problem. PLEASE HELP!!!

Answer
Sounds like a starter kill relay inline on this one Steve.
Locate the starter wire (shows 12 volts ONLY when cranking,
and cut out the relay inserted in the
middle of the starter wire. Then re attatch
the starter wires 2 ends.

The car should start now every time.

Also look back at the answers I already provided concerning
Valet mode, or emergencey overide, if you want the alarm
to still operate your starter kill. If not, simplY
do as I first suggested, and you should be good to go.

However,

If your car key has a chip in it, GM will have to
reprogram it to the ignition so that the PASSLOCK II
system in the column has been matched. This is what
would be holding you back if it does have the chip.

Not all 89 Cutlasses have them, but if yours does,
I would try that after you try the first solution.

Good luck with it.
