Car Alarms: car alarm, immobilizers, crimestopper

Question
Hi, I was looking at getting a car alarm recently and found one (I think on Ebay) that said it would automatically lock the doors when you leave the vehicle and unlock them as you returned.  Since this is done without pushing any buttons it has to be based on proximity of the remote to the vehicle with the 2way paging remotes.  My problem is I cannot find the alarm that had that feature now that I am ready to purchase.  Do you have any ideas on who makes alarms with this feature?  Also your opinions on the feature if you have any experience with it.

Answer
There are several strater immobilizers that are set up
to do proximity where when you leave the car, it sets up starter disable. And then disengages when you return.
The system you are discussing was interesting, but not really very well done. I heard that it worked only half the
time, and then nothing, and no dealer support. I think it
was discontinued. Made by Crimestopper I believe.

So to honestly answer the question, it does exsist, but is unreliable. The other trouble it that if you should need to reprogram the proximity transmitters or reciever, you
will be on your own. That could be a problem down the line.

Now, you can set up an ignition lock and unlock with most
ANY alarm system, which means when the doors are closed behind you, and the igntion key is turned on, then the doors will lock, turn off the ignition and the will unlock autmatically. I carry many systems like that, but for "TRUE" proximity sensing, Lexus still has the best,
and only comes on 1 or 2 vehicles. They have not moved
this technology along much to the aftermarket.

Anyway, that's what I know. I certainly can outfit you with all you need, but can not assist on this one, mostly because I do not know of a good one I could suggest for you specific purpose.

Let me know if I can suggest something.
