Hello, I own a 1998 Mercury Mystique and I have a basic viper alarm system. It usually makes a beep sound when it alarms and unalarms the car. I don't know how but now it still works but it no longer beeps. How do I set to start beeping again?
Answer -
It's in the programing. However I don't know what
system it is, and that does make it harder.

You may be in valet overide, or that system
may have have a way of pressing the buttons
in a certain sequence that makes it silent arm
and disarm.

Does the siren work? Can you set it off currently?
If not it may be in valet mode.

Let me know what you are experiencing.

When I hold button I the siren goes off. but otherwise it's silent. However I dont know which system it is.

Answer
Yeah, well it appears to be in 1 or 2 modes.
silent mode which you need programing info to
change out of. try www.directed.com to see
if you can locate the manual or at least a dealer
who can walk you though programming.

If it's in valet mode, try this:

Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm.

Now try the remotes. If you get a chirp when you lock/arm
and a chirp-chirp when disarmed.unlocked, that was
the trouble.

Let me know
