Car Alarms: Toyota camry alarm, toyota camry, bad weather

Question
Recently purchased a 1999 toyota camry with viper alarm. Worked fine for 1 week then it seems I have to be REALLY close to the car for the alarm to activate/deactivate. Sometimes when I push the button, nothing happens! When I use my key to unlock the car, it will only work if I use it in the passenger side door. Whats going on? How do I increase the signal? Or do I need a new alarm?  Help!!!

Answer
I does appear to be malfunctioning now.
My first thought is to remove the old system, and out in something you know, and is operating as expected.
This would make for a safer, better experience.

Nothing worse then it acting up late at night, or
in bad weather. You can try to repair the componants
and go over the installation that was done to troubleshoot,
but frankly, not knowing what you have exactly, what to expect from it, and when, I would be leary of it.

Get yourself another system. Best advice really.

Good luck with it.
