Car Alarms: Alarm Stopped working, valet mode, viper alarm

Question
Hello, I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma which I purchased brand new in 98 and had a Viper 500PC alarm installed. I have not had any problems in the seven years but on Sunday my battery went dead. I got the car jumped and it ran ok and I immediately drove over to SEARS to have the battery checked. They stated the battery was dead and I purchased a new one. However, after the new battery was installed, the VIPER alarm stopped working. No LED turns on and I cannot activate the system with my remote. Although the system was working fine before the battery went dead. Is it possible that a fuse was blown or maybe the alarm was fried from installing a new battery? The technician at SEARS mentioned that it appears my alternator may be getting ready to go out, but I am worried now that perhaps the alarm is totally fried and that is what is causing the problem to appear as if the alternator is bad. Can you recommend what I can check on the alarm? I would like to make sure it is working and then have my electrical system checked again. The truck has been running ok the last few days with the new battery, other than the alarm no longer working. Everything was working good before the battery died.
Thank you.

Answer
I would put it into valet mode, and let the tech at sears replace the alternator. All things being equal, it's
likely malfunctioning do to lost programing because of the battery.

Once replace, repaired, then reset the alarm
according to the valet procedure in your manual.

Good luck with it.
