Car Alarms: 1994 toyota 4runner factory alarm, toyota 4runner, diagnostic fee

Question
here is a twist,,,-------------------------
you mentioned something about a door pin?
well on the driver side door, it seems that the bottom plastic piece that goes from the frame to  a hole in the door itself is broken.  the piece itself is still attached to the frame, but it is broken where it meets the attachment point within the door itself,, the door i remember the previous owner told me was hyper extended on an open at one point when he owned it... but question still remains, if that could be a problem, why now is it screwing up after almost 2 years of my ownership?.... if this is not the case.. you are telling me to pay the diagnostic fee for them to hook up the computer to my truck at the dealership?  this will tell them the problem?
thanks again

Question -
ok, so when the 1st owner bought the truck brand new, he wanted the alarm system... so they installed it there at the dealership?
so to the left of the dim light knob for the cab there is a small round red light that blinks slowly when alarm is activated.. this is still a dealer alarm right (the key fob has one button on it and says toyota..thus making it a contracted alarm system.)
so my problem needs to go to a dealer and not a automotive or alarm expert here in my city?  either way from what it sounds like to you, it is the fobs malfunction,,(even on the spare one too, as i have tried that one?) or is it internal with the system?i dod not want to get ripped off here,, what would be causing this sudden problem i am having?
thanks for your quick replies you are a great help to the internet community!-------------------------

Question -
hello there,

I have a 1994 Toyota 4runner loaded with a factory installed alarm.

yesterday i was startled as i was inside my house and heard the alsarm go off... i went outside to find nothing wrong with my truck, yet the alarm was going crazy..

Today the same thing happened, but worse,, it would go of and on and the lights would flicker as well (as if i was manually hitting the alarm key pad repeatedly).  Well i called toyota and they told me a cheap way to start figuring out what is wrong would be to try the key fob battery.. changed it with a new, tried it, and still no control came from the key fob.. tried the new battery on my spare fob, and still no control of the alarm locking or unlocking...

I can unlock my door with the key, when i open the door,, again the alarm goes off...  I had to take out the horn fuse to stop all the noise as i live in a tight neighborhood.... any way,, the alarm seems to be going off whenever it feels like it now,,, no noise since i took out the horn fuse,, but the lights flick on and off and i can hear the clicking inside the cab.... i am wondering what the problem may be?

Toyota has been no help what so ever mind you...
desperate, and not wanting to be stranded with a dead battery after a days work from it going on and off intermitedly all day long?

can you advise....
thank you for your time

The trouble I have here is that this truck does not have a "factory installed alarm". That being said, you
are dealing with a dealer installed product.
It can say Toyota on it, but likey, it was
a contractor piece.
If it were aftermarket, when there was a valet overide
switch, if the parking lights were flashing, not the headlights, and there was a siren going off, as opposed
to the car's own horn. There would also be a flashing
LED installed in the dash area if aftermarket.
I could then offer a bit of support. The trouble is
that from the sounds of it, your remotes have lost programing, and the dealer would need to have it there
supply the support you need.

Good luck with it. Maybe another Toyota dealer
can be more help then this one.

I hope you can figure it out soon.

Thanks!
Now back to you. There was something that set it off
originally. Anything from a bad door pin switch
to a bad module under the dash. I any case, you have
a problem that it seems Toyota needs to fix.

Also, in the rear doors is a switch. Make sure they
are off. It is the child safety lock out system.
But I don't think that't the trouble. I think
Toyota needs to reset the alarm. Also try to put
the unlock key in the door, turn left all the way,
then right to unlock. This may also reset that system
untill you can have it serviced.

Luck with it. I hope it works out.

I am not saying anything except I am suggesting that if it's damaged, repair that door pin switch, which is
probably your trouble. And yes, all of a sudden is very possible. Hard to say from my angle, but I would
make all things nominal, do the repair on the door pin,
and have toyota reset the remotes for you.

Best advice I can offer when not dealing with aftermarket
systems we can identify.
