Car Alarms: 1997 Subaru Outback Alarm disable, keyless entry system, subaru outback

Question
I own a 1997 Subaru Outback wagon that has a flaky alarm system.  I would like to either remove it or permanently deactivate it.  At the same time, I would like to keep my keyless entry system intact.

My local Subaru dealer wants to sell me a new keyless entry brain box to clear up the flaky alarm problem.  Although this appears to solve the flaky alarm problems, it really isn't the fix I want (i.e., I hate having an alarm).  They have told me it is impossible to switch to a different brain box that has only keyless entry without an alarm system option.  Nor do they believe that they can remove the alarm without also taking away my keyless entry ability.

How can I remove the alarm in my car and still end up with a keyless entry system?

Thanks is advance.

Answer
Ok, first off, according the my 4 databases, your car
is not equipped with an OEM alarm. That being said,
the reason your Subaru dealer suggested selling you
a keyless system is to be able to remove the current
aftermarket alarm, and replace with another aftermarket
keyless system. That's not so bad as long as they do
not try to take you to the cleaners doing it.

Fore instance, in this car, replacing the system with
an ASTRA 50 keyless from my shop is 44.95 and can be
done in an hour (50.00 labor to remove the old
and put in the new).

If they attempt to charge you an
undue amount for this, I would thank them for
they're time, buy a keyless system on your
own, and be happy. I help guys like you do that
all day long here at ALARMTEK.

I love being able to flip the finger (figuratively)
at the dealerships. They really need to get a grip!

Let me know if I can help further.

Best regards (don't get taken!)
