Car Alarms: Purtsuit Auto Alarm, brain box, chevy van

Question
I just purchased a 1993 Chevy van with a Pursuit auto alarm, there are no remotes for the alarm.  In a previous question you told another person to try two switches to deactivate the alarm.  The vehicle has only one switch and can the brain box be located under the hood near the firewall.

Answer
Unlikely the brain is under the hood unless it's a cheapo
"self contained" system. It would be a square box, that
also had the siren inside it. If this is what
you have now, cut the black wire first, the red next,
and then the rest if there are any left over.

If however, this is a modular system, only the
siren is under the hood, the brain is up under
the dash. You would then need to either get new remotes
to use it, or remove it and replace with a system
that will do a good job. (see the precision 200 at www.CARALARMZ.com)

If you do have an overide switch, follow the direction
I gave in that response you read to try to disable it
until you decide on what you want to do.

IE:
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm.

Good luck with it.
