Car Alarms: Ford Taurus Anti Theft Alarm, power door locks, ford taurus

Question
It's a Ford 2001 Taurus SES. Just bought it. Runs great but I get a blinking "THEFT" word on the
dash cluster at all times.

Does that mean the alarm is disabled?

Is there a "valet switch" to disable the alarm?

The key fob, according to the owner's manual enables the alarm when you use it to lock the power door locks.

I could not get the alarm to go off when I opened the door through an open window.

Would appreciate your help.

Answer
No this is the factory security system and it
seems to have been tripped. The only way now
to get it to reset and operate is to have ford
reset it. The thing here though is that all it does
is honk the horn and flash the headlights.
Not protect the car from theft. You also have a
transmod bypass in the ignition that needs to see
a coded key to start the car. Without it, you can't.

My best suggestion is to have Ford reset it and
to put in a better aftermarket alarm to protect it.
At this point, it's an easy mark for a car thief.

Have a good day.
