Car Alarms: Diode, solinoid, selenoid

Hi, Well I am trying to install a relay for my trunk release selenoid on my car, but I have the doubt about installing a diode on the positive cable that goes to the selenoid, since I still want the car to have the original button for the trunk release, will the voltage go in the relay if I press the button(this is without the diode)? if I need one, what voltage rating do I need? thank you.

This is not an issue for car alarm, remote trunk release.
I don't understand if you already have trunk release,
why are you adding another solinoid? If this
is an attempt to install an aftermarket solinoid
in place of an older, not working OEM solinod,
You can not do that without the proper OEM solinoid.

The two are not compatible.
