Question-------------------------What is the best brand and type of alarm(at a reasonable price). And is it easy to install or do i have to have it professionally installed? Thx.

I have a 1990 vw jetta gl. In 1999 i had a viper 600HF car alarm and a part to unlock the drivers door with the remote for manual door lock at circuit city.2001 i was having a problem with the car starting so i called them they told me to remove the fuse from the alarm to the battery i did and i still had problems so they came out and removed the part under the dash(brain i guess) to the alarm to resolved the problem but it wasnt the alarm. so in 2003 i had the part under the dash replaced back at circuit city. It worked fine but only one side of my park lights worked but that was ok they could of tracked down the problem but i didnt want to wait any longer. So at the end of 2004 the alarm only worked every now and then now it barely works at all amd the remote door lock and unlock stopped working in 2003.And i've replaced the battery in the remote when it first started acting up. Could u tell me what can i do !! Thx
Answer -
The short answer is to scrap the Viper, and get
a better alarm for yourself. I would have done it
before thispoint, but if you were'nt bothered by
it up till now, then ok when ready to do it,
swap it out.
Seems to me that this alarm was not
installed correctly the first time as it is.
so again, not being there, I am limited to
logic. Logic dictates here that you use the
Viper as a door stop or an ash tray,
(my personal favorite)and get something
that actually works for you.
