Question - Thanks so much for the quick response. My only follow up is regarding this valet/override switch. I've never seen it before. Do I need to remove any paneling to get to it? Where is it?
Thanks again.
Hi, I have a '94 maxima, with a security system that has driven me crazy. Whenever the battery goes dead, the engine won't turn over no matter how well you jump it, until you use the remote to deactiviate the killswitch (I think that's what it's called). The problem is, I lost the remote. I know the keyless entry code, but using it to open the doors doesn't seem to disable the killswitch. Neither does any other combination I tried of locking and opening the doors with the key or the code. Sometimes, with all of these attempts, the security light on the dash starts blinking, and sometimes it goes off, but I can't get it to start. Any ideas of what tricks will do it? Thanks for any help.

This is an aftermarket
system with starter kill. Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid, and the siren chirps once.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in opposite direction,
key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start it. At this point,
the only thing working would be
keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart (www.wirewerx.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

If it does not work out this way,
you will have to replace the system
with one you know how to operate
and what to expect. Don't want to
get stuck in another bad situation.

Let me know what happens.

Answer
It's installed aftermarket, and the norm is
the drivers left kee  or in the plastic
underdash panels. Look for a push (spring loaded)
button red or black, or a toggle type on off switch.

It's usally hidden from plain site, so the best
is to get down low, and look around.
Should be there.

Your welcome.
