Car Alarms: Honda civic ex remote start w/ alarm, valet mode, honda civic ex

Question
I resently had an astra security system w/remote start professionally installed for 359.00 in my 96 honda civic ex, push the unlock and get into the car, put key in the ignition and it won't turn, the car clicks and snaps and then the doors are locked behind me. Yes locked inside the car. Another encounter with the ignition on and car running and in gear i let my daughter out at school an when she opened the door the alarm went off. Yes I have alot of questions in regard to just how professional the installation was. I know if you hook up a radio wrong it can do damage, any ideas? I just got the car!

Answer
The doors locking behind you when you turn on the key
is correct, this is default. so that's correct, but
it seems that this install is not.

The installer also apparently installed starter kill
as well. Can you tell me if you may have triggered
the alarm, and it is actually acting correctly in this
instance? If unsure about this, go into valet
mode and reset the system. This will discount any
prior issues, and once done, if install correctly,
these troubles will go away.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid, and the siren
chirps once. This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start it. At this point,
the only thing working would be
keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode &
That should do it.
If not, you need to take it back immediately
and have the installer sort out your trouble.
That's alot of money spent to not know how
to control and understand it.

It appears they are not on the correct
door trigger/dome light wire to detect when they
open the doors, and the ignition wire that was
used on this installation is incorrect. The system
looks for the ignition wire to come on when you
turn on the key so it does not engage while driving.

You can also contact Scytek at (800) 693-7505
to double check the functions, but it appears
to be either installer issues, or the user (you)
may need to be a bit more educated on the alarm
features, functions, and expectations if the
alarm is triggered.

Let me know what you come up with.

Best of luck.
