Car Alarms: Alarm problems, cutlass supreme, dash area

Question
Hi ,
I have a 96'cutlass supreme two door with sidewinder 5000 ESP.. The other day it started acting crazy-trunk lock repeatedly opening ,and the door locks opening/clicking plus the red light stays on. Now the power locks don't work they just make a lot of clicking noises for 1 minute ,and the outside lights do not flash when arming the alarm. I would appreciate some advice ,and before you mention the shop that installed it 3.5 years ago i checked they closed last year. I really just want to disarm it at this point..

Answer
This sounds like either a grounding issue (not connected tightly)
or, the car is begining to
have low battery troubles, and the alarm
is reponding in kind. I would check the alernator
and battery issues first, as it is unlikely that the
system would sudenly malfunction, but more likely
that the locking and unlocking and trunk pop are
seeing voltage drops, and are trying to compensate.

Let's first try to put the car into
"valet/overide" mode.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid, and the
siren chirps once.

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start it. At this point,
the only thing working would be
keyless entry from the alarm.

In this case, just go into valet for now,
then get the car to the mechanic ASAP to
check your battery charging system.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart (www.wirewerx.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

Let me know what happens.
