Car Alarms: 1994 Jeep Grang Cherokee alarm question, jeep grand cherokee laredo, jeep grand cherokee

Question
Hello, I recently bought a used 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It came with a factory installed alarm and its driving me nuts. I didnt get an owners manual so there is alot I cant figure out.  Sometimes the alarm work and sometimes it doesn't. when the alarm doesnt set,the doors still lock and unlock using the remote.  The remote has 3 buttons on it. the top one is the only one that seems to do anything.  They told me the car is also supposed to have what they called Auto Start.  im not sure how do use that, is it done through the remote?  Im really confused when it comes to this.  All i know how to do is set and disarm the alarm and that is all using that top button.  Any idea what those other two are for or how i can use the atuostart feature?  thanks alot-Anthony

Answer
Ok it's hard to tell from this exactly what you have
there, but it is an aftermarket system. The 3rd button
probably controls the remote starter. Press and hold
the button until you get a reaction from the system.
The lights may come on, and you also may get a chirp
from the siren in confirmation. The engine would start,
run for 10 to 20 mins, then shut itself off.
(if it works)

I would try to ID it at www.remotesunlimited.com
to find out just what you have there. Maybe locate
the company to get some info on the usage of it.

But if it's an intermittent system, I would pull it
and start over with one you know how to use,
and what it's capable of.

Makes for a safer experience overall.

Good luck with it.
