Questiondont know if you could help me or not i have a cobra alarm fitted in my bmw,the battery went flat but it cant of been armed as it only went flat as i washed all the interior and i had the doors open all day so a light inside drained the battery or something so my dad went to charge it and he conected the battery charger leads the wrong way round for a start but he did correct that,now the alarm button wont work and i replaced the battery,and if you open and close the car with just a key the alarm goes off but the car still starts but the alarm goes off so you cant drive it anywhere and its a real pest,we tried disconnecting the battery again for a second to see if it resets the alarms but nothing is working,please help as im away to put it up for sale and the last thing i want is a big bill getting people out to fix it im sure there must be somthing we could try ourselfs,if you could help then it would be very much appreciated.
AnswerTry to reset it using the valet
overide switch under the dash area.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid, and the siren chirps once.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in opposite direction,
key off.)
This should reset the alarm.
Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
That should do it. But if not,
then you would need to pull down
the brain box and check all
the fuses inline on the alarm harness.
It is possible that dad surged and blew a fuse
when he jumped the battery. Can happen.
If that is the case, the Cobra may have suffered
circuit damage. I know this sounds odd, but simply
smell the alarm box. You know what an electrical burn
smells like. If you detect this, then it is likely
you will need to replace the system.
