Car Alarms: Cadillac STS 1999, gm passlock, cadillac sts

Question
I am going to install a remote start system to a 1999 sts seville... Should I be able to just connect the remote start system or will I need any type of bypass unit.. if yes will it still work w/out the bypass unit..I guess I also want to know what would be the purpose of the bypass type unit..

Answer
Yes this vehiclce will require some relays, and
the GM passlock III bypass system. In this case,
you will need to use a transmod type bypass
module. It will require you give up one
of your ignition keys to the module box, so
you will need to have a 3rd key made at GM
PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.

No you can not install into this vehicle without
a bypass module designed to do it safely.

The reason that this system exsists is
pretty obvious really,

Without the right key, you can not start the engine.
To remote start, you need to trick the PASSLOCK system
into thinking that the key is in the ignition so it will allow your remote starter to work.

That's what you need to make it happen.
