Question -
I just recently bought a 1999 Mercury Cougar. The night I bought it, stupidly, I left the map lights on, and discovered the next day I drained the battery. With the battery still connected to the car, we started to hook up the battery charger, but every time it we hooked it up, the car alarm would go off, and nothing would turn it off. We tried putting the key in the ingition and turning it, and everything. So we disconnected the battery and charged it up. The next day the car alarm went off just by hooking up the battery! Nothing would turn it off, pressing the button on the remote didn't work (I think the remote battery may be dead), starting it and driving it didn't work, and putting it in gear didn't work. WE didn't get an owner's manual when we bought it either. Can you help us? Thank you so much.
         Sincerely,
         Kevin.

Answer -
Hi,
I need to know a couple of things first.
When you say the alarm went off, what is going off,
the cars horn, or a siren? Are the headlights flashing
or, the parking lights.

I am trying to determine if it's after market, or
the Ford OEM system.

Let me know.

Both the flashers go off, and the horn beeps repeatedly. Thanks again.

Answer
Sorry about this but it is the Factory systen and I
don't know them. My expertise is in the aftermarket.
I suggest contacting the people at Mercury to
have them reset it for you, or disable the system
completely & permanantly, and then add an
aftermarket one that will
do a better job.

Good luck with it.
