Car Alarms: Recommend an alarm, sebring lxi, chicago winters

Question
Thanks so much for your help. I am interested in those alarms but I was thinking about a remote start...Chicago winters are VERY cold so if I am getting a system anyway, might as well have that too. What would you recommend with a remote start and the all other stuff?

Hi,

First I want to thank you for your site. I have a 98 Sebring LXI which has a factory alarm and an aftermarket alarm or keyless entry which I BELIEVE is disabled since I have never used it and the car uses the OEM key chain and works just like the manual states...(I bought the car used in 99 at a dealership)Anyway I had  a lot of expensive things in it but it was recently broken into and I lost some of it. My alarm went off, lights flashed but I live in an apt. complex and did not hear or see it even though I am on the first floor and my room is about 50 feet from my car and I can see it from my window. The people who broke in smashed out my passenger window and got access to my trunk where they stole speakers, amps, wires, etc etc. I would like an alarm that would alert the remote on the keychain if the car was broken into and possibly motion or glass sensors if they are available. I have taught myself over the years how to install my car audio systems so I would like something that I could do myself with a little bit of help. There are so many brands and different prices I am not sure what I need, what some alarms actually do or what would be the best value. I am afraid to ask anyone at a store b/c I don't think they will be honest with me, just try to make a good sale. I am not worried about my car itself being stolen, just what is inside. Thanks so much and I am sorry this question was so long!

Thanks,

LIZ

Dear Liz,
No problem getting you set up with the right system.
The best one for this, without remote start, is the
ASTRA 777 or 7E7 system from Scytek. (www.pagingalarm.com)
Either of these system will page you up to 3000 feet away.
I sell the whole line of Scytek pproducts, as well as many others,
but for this purpose, I have to go with these 2
choices for flexability and paging range.

Have a look at both, and see the specifications ay
Scytek  (www.scytek.net). Both are in  stock and
I can get it to you by weeks end if you like.

Let me know.

In the mean time, try to locate the aftermarket
alarm's valet switch under the dash area, and take
it out of service mode, back to arming mode so you
can at least use the protection until you decide.

try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area in most cases,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area comes on solid.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in oposite direction,
key off.)

This should be valet. This overides
the starter kill relay in the alarm harness,
and returns the car back to disarmed mode.

The only thing that will work now on your system,
is the keyless entry if installed.

Just Repeat these steps to rearm your system.

That should do it.

Let me know if I can send you a system
that will protect your stuff.

Answer
Well Liz, I was going to suggest that but you
seem to be ahead of me. Lol, It is going to be a cold
one this year and this would make your life
a bit easier. I like the Galaxy 5000 rsw 1 -2way
paging alarm/remote start/keyless system here. I was
leaning towards the Ultrastart 4255tl, but in your case,
the Circuitry in the Galaxy would be a better
choice for really cold weather like Chicago.

This is the ASTRA 777's big brother and has all of
the premium functions the 777 has, with the
addition of the remote starter.
I use this one in my 2001 Intrepid, and
it works very well.

Along with the necessary relays, this system
will run you 180.00 plus (s&h) to Chicago
from Florida. (approx 9.99)

So if you want it now, please copy cut n paste
the following link into your browser to send
payment, I will ship it out ASAP and send you
the 98 Sebring wiring chart to make the job easier.
