Car Alarms: Alarm is off, but key locks are working on their own, viper alarm system, viper dealer

Question
I had a Viper alarm system installed about 6 months ago and suddenly the key locks go on and off on their own. This happens while I drive and when I leave the vehicle. I have turned off the alarm and the key locks still work on their own. Now when I leave the vehicle, I remove the negative cable off the car battery so the battery won't run down. What should I do?

Answer
Normally this will happen at low voltage. I know it's devils advocate
here, but what seems to be happening, is that there is a loose ground that is causing this itermittency,
or a connector in the installation that is not
quite making the connection. I would take it
to your local DEI (Viper) dealer for warranty work.
They always tout that if a qualified dealer installed
it, then they will warranty it for the life of the
vehicle. Make them prove it.

My guess is it's either installer error
(bad crimp or connector which is possible)
or, the car's alternator is starting to go bad,
(also possible)
and you may need to service this at
a mechanic.

I am leaning towards the former though.

Get it looked at in any event.

Good luck with it.
