Car Alarms: Problem with Viper Remote, 94 saturn sc2, saturn sc2

Question
So, I not-so-wisely tried to carry ALL the groceries in from the car in one trip and as I was crossing the parking lot, I dropped my key with the Viper Alarm Remote on it. When I returned to the car, I pressed the button, the light on the remote flickered, and... nothing.  The alarm does not seem to be receiving the signal. On the off-chance that the battery could have died simulataneously with the remote hitting the pavement, I replaced it. Still no go.  (The light on the remote does seem to me to LOOK a little different. I do not remember the flicker - it seems to me that it used to be a brief but solid "blink". Replacing the battery still gives the same flicker. )

I purchased the vehicle used. ('94 Saturn SC2) The original owner had the Viper alarm installed after market when he purchased the car.  I did not receive any paperwork on it so I do not know the model number.

I promise, I did not throw the key - it just slipped out of my hand to the ground.  I can't believe that killed it, but it sure does seem to be the case!

I've switched the system over to Valet mode, so I can drive, but I want my alarm and keyless entry back!  I don't know where to turn - can remotes be repaired or do I need to buy a new one? Where do I go?  Is this a "pricey" repair/replacement?

Sheesh! talk about feeling like a KLUTZ . .

I appreciate any info or direction you might be able to provide.

Best regards,

Kathy

Answer
Answer:  Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area in most cases,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area comes on solid.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in oposite direction,
key off.)

This should be valet. This overides
the starter kill relay in the alarm harness,
and returns the car back to disarmed mode.

The only thing that will work now on your system,
is the keyless entry if installed.

Just Repeat these steps to rearm your system.

That should do it. If not, contact your local
DEI (VIPER) dealer and have them re program the
remote.

Let me know what happens.
