Car Alarms: i think my alarm shorted out, dashboard area, ultrastart

Hi,
I have a 1996 for probe gt with a dealer installed ford alarm i think when my boyfriend went to fix the radio wires he shorted out the alarm. The light reset switch is not blinking and i can not start the car is there any way to disconnect it so i can start the car? Aslo do you recomend any keyless/ alarms since I probally am going to have to replace this one.

That's a drag. Let's start with the last question.
Yes there are several units that will do the job right.
My top 2 choices for basic alarm and keyless are
1. the ASTRA 200 SYSTEM (59.95)

Both will replace your system well.

Now onto the alarm trouble. If you indeed shorted
the system you currently have, and the LED is
out and no responce at all from the alarm, then
you will need to 1. unplug the brain box under the
dashboard area. Then try to start the engine.
If no luck, then locate the starter disable relay
on the car's starter wire (BLACK/YELLOW wire
in the ignition switch harness off the key),
cut off the relay inline, attatched to the alarm,
then re attatch the starter wire ends.
This will allow you to then and drive the car
with no problems until you
can replace the system.
