Question -
I just bought a used car 2002 Mazda Protege it has a Viper alarm system with keyless entry.  We had a thunderstorm for the first time since I got the car and the storm set off the alarm 4 times,  Why is that? Is that normal?  Please advise. Thanks
Answer -
It's the 2 stage shock/impact sensor being set off
by the thunder/lightning. You can get up there and using
a screw driver (small flat head) turn down the sensor
(counter clockwize) or just unplug it from the brain.

That will sove the issue altogether. Then you would
just depend on the door triggers to set off
the alarm when/if someone attempts to break in.

I hope this helps.

Have a good weekend.

Answer
Most likely you will find it
under the dash area, and if installed correctly,
towards the middle console area for utmost
coverage. It will be a smallish clear or black
plastic module, and will have a 4 wire multi
colored harness attatched to it. If traced
back to origin, you will find the alarm brain
as well. It will have a red light and possibly a green
one also. Red is instant trigger, green is warn away.
Turn both down or off. You are entirely welcome.

Good hunting.
