Car Alarms: VW Passat alarm, mechanical fatigue, agravating

Question
We have a '92 Passat sedan which has a lot of problems, the most agravating of which is it's theft alarm which goes off with out warning about once every three months. We have discovered that it quits by itself after about four minutes, but is it is sometimes embarrasing when it goes off intraffic. I have not been able to find even the alarm horn (that is separate from the regular alarm) to pull it's wires off. That tip woul d be useful and also what it setting this thing off?
thanks

Answer
I can't tell you what started the system
from arming arbitrarilly. Usually after
12 years, it's a mechanical fatigue problem.

If it were me, I would disable it completely
and putin an aftermarket system to protect
the car. If you are or have someone to
go into the car and do this, It Requires
Two Pulses To Disarm Alarm normally, but
in this case, you need to stop it alltogehter.

If you can get to the anti-theft module,
ground the wire to the chassis of the
car, directly. This will permanantly
disarm/disable the factory alarm.

The OEM Alarm Disarm Wire Is
BLACK/WHITE OR RED/BLK (+) in a 10 Pin Connector
AT ANTI-THEFT MODULE In the drivers door.

Carefull with this, but you should be able
to correct the situation this way for good.

Luck with it.
