Car Alarms: Programming Remote Locking Devices, land rover freelander, programing

Question
I have just acquired an additional remote locking/unlocking (keyfob) device for my 2001 Land Rover Freelander.  Can I program this myself or does the car have to go into a dealer? If I can do it myself, what is the sequence of actions required?

No Dave Sorry,
  I believe you will need to have Landrover program it by computer
to recognize the remote if it's from Landrover.
If it's an aftermarket alarm/keyless system,
I would need
to know who's it is and the model to provide
some sort of procedure. If factory, they will be doing
the programing, and as you know, it's going to
be expensive. Again, sorry, but that's the only
way I know of to accomplish this.
