Car Stereos: engine noise, buick centry, signal wires

Question
I have a moderately loud engine sound that plays on my system that plays as soon as my system is on and i`ve checked the amplifier ground. I can also here my driversde window go up and down if i dont have music paying. How can i fix this problem? dont know if it helps but i have an 03 buick centry.

Answer
Hi Kevin,

There's two possibilities here.

The first is your ground.  I know you said you checked it, but make sure that it is as short as possible, and is grounded out on bare, unpainted, clean metal that is preferably part of the chassis, and not something bolted to the chassis.

Second, is your RCA wires.  If they're not well shielded, buy some that are.  Also, run them through the car independently of the amp's power wire.  If the amp wire is going down the left side of the car, send the RCAs down the right.  If the power and signal wires have to cross, do it as perpendicular as possible.
