Car Stereos: Amp shuts off, acoustic amp, level volume

Question
I have a Power Acoustic Amp 2000W pushing 2 12" Kickers DVC 4 Ohms. The amp works good at a medium level volume, but when I put on the bass boast it only plays good for about 2 mins then it seams to over heat and shuts off, then restarts again. Why does it do this? Is it possible that the wiring on the woofers are not correct and is reducing the ohms below what the amp can handle? The specs on the amp shows 350w x 2ch. @4 OHMS, 400W x 2ch. @2 OHMS, and 800W x 1ch. @4OHMS What would be the best way to wire the woofers. Using two 4ohms DVC Woofers. Or do I need to put a capacitor?

Answer
Hi Jesse,

First, bass boost is junk and you shouldn't use it. :)

Second, amps shut themselves off to save themselves from permanent damage once they're seeing the wrong amount of impedance, or if they're overheating.

A capacitor is unlikely to be a fix for this issue.

If you have 2x4ohm DVC subs, then your best bet is to wire each sub in parallel (making each sub 2ohms), and then wire the subs in series, giving you 4ohms back, and then wire that one channel up bridge on the amp to get your 800x1.  Get a multimeter, set it to impedance, and hook it up to the - and + on your subs, and make sure that the total circuit is at 4 ohms or higher.  If it's lower, which I suspect it might be, then your amp will overheat because it's not rated for it.
