Car Stereos: 2002 ford taurus stereo, ford taurus, line output converter

Question
QUESTION: I've recently hooked up a stereo in a 02 Taurus using a line output converter after the factory amp. i was able to get sound from the subs but only on very low volume, is this a connection problem? how can i fix this so the subs can be played at a louder volume? also with the output converter I'm using a floating ground.

ANSWER: Hi Courtney,

First thing to check is to make sure that you've got the actual speaker outputs separate going into the line out converter.

Also, where do you have the floating ground?  The converter itself should be grounded to bare metal so it has a reference ground, and the speakers should have 2 outputs each: signal and ground, which are going into the converter so it knows what it's working with.

QUESTION: my three fuses on my aftermarket amp are blown this is why my amp turns on but doesn't get power rite? I've checked my connection to the battery on my power cord I'm using a splitter with i think a 60-80a fuse. it seems like it isn't getting power when i plug and unplug the fuse? could this be because of the three fuses on my amp? One more thing my remote wire, can i hook this to a fuse? what do you think would be best.     thank you for your help

ANSWER: Hi Courtney,

If the fuses in the amp are shot, then yes, that will obviously prevent things from working.

Make sure you only replace them with the factory rated amperage.  Going above could pose a fire hazard.

If they pop again, you'll need to look into why it's happening.

The first thing to check is a shorted wire hooked up to it.

QUESTION: ok i replaced the fuses and got my subs working but still only on low volume? if i do turn my stereo up my amp lights flicker between power and protection? could this be a bad ground? i checked my wire connections and it all seems to be correct. again thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Courtney,

That would suggest to me there's either an error in the subwoofer hookups, the subwoofers are blown, or your subwoofers are providing a lower impedance than the amplifier is designed to handle.

What is your amplifier model, what is your subwoofer model(s), and how are they hooked up?
