Car Stereos: antenna, rear defogger, antenna connection

I am getting static through the radio when the rear defogger is on the same time the radio is playing - was thinking there is a bad ground ? when I look at the back of the radio it appears that the ground might go back to the rear of the vehicle ? also it appears that there might be 2 antennas installed ? the antenna the radio is connected to goes around the dash - while there is another antenna connection on the left side of steering wheel where it goes towards the back of the car ... any ideas ?

The first thing to test is to check and see if you still have the static when you put a CD in the unit.

If the static remains, you can surmise that it's probably the ground.  If it goes away, you're dealing with the antenna.

If it's the ground, I would suggest just creating a new ground to a bare metal part in the dash.

If it's the antenna, unfortunately, you're probably looking at tearing out plastics to locate where it's either shorted, or kinked/damaged.
