Car Stereos: Stereo detachable face connection issue, pioneer deh p3600, detachable face

Question
I have a pioneer DEH-P3600 and it sounds great in my car.  Problem is the display/controls.  A week or so ago after detaching/reattaching the front, the display or controls no longer worked.  So I detached and reattached making sure all was lined up right.  The display came on briefly.  So I gently pressed on the front and both the display and controls worked - until I pulled my hand away.  So I got out the isopropyl and q-tips and cleaned the contacts.  Still the same issue.  This has got to be something simple I'm missing because all I have to do is push in on the face and I have display and controls until I let go.  Any suggestions short of getting a new unit would be awesome.

Answer
Hi Darrell,

It sounds like the mechanism that holds the faceplate securely to the head unit chassis may have worn out.  Unfortunately, in a flip-down faceplate unit like yours, I don't know of an easy fix for this.  You might try looking for a replacement unit on eBay--sometimes they're sold as non-working units or missing the face, and you might be able to get replacement parts this way.

Good luck!

Brian
