Car Stereos: Tahoe speakers, fuse box, pink wire

Question
I installed a new head unit thinking that my factory head unit was blown but i still have the same prob that i was having.  I cant get any sound to come out of the speakers.  I have a 2001 Tahoe.  If i were to have a factory amp where would that be to so i can check to see if that is the prob or not.  I had power to both the factory radio and the new one but just no sound can u please help me.   Thank  You Dwight

Answer
Hi Dwight,

Some Tahoes were equipped with factory amplifiers; if yours has the amp, it's located behind the glove box.  It's possible to bypass the amplifier and connect the speakers directly to the new head unit; but typically you'd need to give up some of the speakers to do this.  An after-market head unit has only four speaker outputs.

If there's a separate 9-pin plug at the factory radio location, look for a pink wire in this plug.  If present, the pink wire needs to be connected to the blue/white remote output from your new head unit in order to turn on the factory amp.

Don't forget to check the amplifier's fuse.  It's located in the fuse box under the hood, and will be labeled "RDO Amp".

Hope this helps!
