Car Stereos: 98 Lincoln Navigator, rear view camera, stock radio

Question
What wires do i connect to my Jensen Flip Out Head unit to get to to work? I have the harness and the wiring kit but just don't see how it would come into play because the wire block that would fit into the wiring set does fit but not properly.

Answer
Hi Corey,

Sorry about the delay in answering your question.

The correct wire harness for your vehicle should be a Metra 70-5600 or similar.  If you have a harness that doesn't fit the factory plug, then it's likely that you have the wrong harness.  What part doesn't fit correctly?

In general, an in-dash DVD player would wire up just like a standard CD player, except that there will be a few extra wires, which won't be found in the stock radio plug or adapter harness.  One wire is a reverse input.  This tells the head unit when your vehicle is shifted into reverse gear, so that it can automatically switch the display to the rear-view camera.  If you're not installing a rear-view camera, then you should leave the reverse input wire disconnected.

Another extra wire will be the parking brake input.  This should be connected to the wire coming from the vehicle's parking brake switch, which is part of the parking brake assembly under the driver's-side dash.

All other wires should be found in the adapter harness; you just need to make sure you have the right one.

Hope this helps!
