Car Stereos: 1993 ford tempo radio, fuse panel, ford tempo

Question
i have a 93 ford tempo and i am not getting any power to the acc. wire from my harness i bought from the store.  i looked at all the fuses and they are good.  i took the 2 powers and put them together and attached both to the red or constant which ever you wanna call it and the radio works great but i can set the time seeing i dont have the yellow hooked up correctly.  what can i do to fix this issue? can i attach it to the fuse panel or go somewhere else with that wire without tearing my dash completely apart?

Answer
Hi Kenneth,

First of all, the yellow wire in your harness is the constant power wire.  The red wire is the accessory power.  It sounds like your accessory wire is working, but your constant wire is not.

In your vehicle, the two radio fuses are #11 and #8 in the fuse panel under the driver-side dash, so I'd double-check these two fuses first.

If necessary, you can route the yellow wire directly to a constant power source elsewhere in the vehicle.  If you can get to the cigarette lighter wiring, it's likely to be a constant power source.  You can also run the wire directly to the fuse box.  I'd recommend putting your own fuse on the wire, close to the point where you connect it to another power source.

Hope this helps!
