Car Stereos: Satellite Ready car stereo adapter, satellite radio service, xm satellite radio

Question
I just bought a Clarion stereo to install in my '06 Trailblazer.  It is a double din & is iPod/CD/DVD player as well as am/fm.  It is also bluetooth & satellite radio ready.  My question is, what adapter do I need to install for the XM satellite radio to work?  I've seen the Sirius SCC1 connect universal tuner & I'm wondering I'd that's all I need?  Please help, it's a bit confusing! Thanks!

Answer
Hi Julie,

Sorry about the long delay in answering your question.

Many newer Clarion units can be connected directly to the Sirius SC-C1 universal tuner without a separate adapter.  This is probably the easiest way to get satellite radio service through your new head unit.  In the past, XM radio service was also available, using the CNP2000UCA XM mini tuner kit together with a CNPCLA1 adapter cable for Clarion.  However, the latest Clarion owner's manual (for the VX401) doesn't list XM radio tuner compatibility, only Sirius, so I'm not certain if XM radio units are still supported.

Hope this helps!
