Car Stereos: python 450 esp remote starter security, nissan pathfinder, power locks

Question
My remote started randomly not working at times and then completely stopped working.  I have ordered a new one to see if it is the remote, but I think something is going on with the Python.  I try and use the Valet button to change any modes as per the manual, but never get the light to change from anything but blinking normal.  I tried to put it in the learn mode, but it didn't seem to respond.  How would I know if it was locked and would need a BIT writer or not?  The power locks do cycle when I turn the key off and on, but not sure if the truck would normally do that.  It is on a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder.  Any help is greatly appreciated! Date code on unit is OCT 2000.

Answer
Hi Sean,

If the light's blinking, then it's in "armed" mode, and won't go into programming until it's disarmed.  To do this, put your key in and turn it to the "run" position, then press and release the valet button.  The light should stop blinking; if it doesn't, turn the key off, then turn it on and off again--this is to clear any zone trigger reporting.  At this point, you should be able to put the system into programming mode.

From what you've described, my best guess is that a new remote will fix the problem.  You might want to check the battery bracket on the circuit board inside the remote, though; it's not uncommon for the bracket to come loose from the board, so that it doesn't hold the battery securely.  In this case, it can be re-soldered pretty easily.

Hope this helps!
