Car Stereos: 1990 Chevrolet truck radio, antenna wire, chevrolet truck

Question
I have a 1990 Chevy truck.  Recently the radio started cutting
out and sounding like a helicopter, but after turning off and
on a few times would work.  Now it sounds like a helicopter
all the time, but you can faintly hear talk radio.  Do I need
to replace the radio, amp, or both or ?

Answer
I would guess the problem is in the stereo itself.  There is a small chance that the antenna may have a break in the wire, but it would need to be checked to see if that were the cause.  If the problem is intermittent, it will be hard to check the antenna break, because it is not a visible problem.  The other problem is that the antenna wire is not very expensive, but normally, it is a pain to replace.  Hope this helps, Scott
