Car Stereos: 2003 grand am monsoon head unit, typical light, grand am

Question
the screen and all the lighting on my head unit recently
went out along with the knobs on it the head unit still
works but i cant manually tune the stereo or adjust the
volume. i was thinking about replacing the head unit but if
i can fix this problem i probably will keep the current one.
is there any way to fix this without going to the dealer or
a shop

Hi Ryan,

This is an extremely common problem with GM and especially Pontiac radios.  There's a web site that sells a replacement bulb kit, and offers illustrated instructions for installing them.  Note that you'll need to be willing to solder the new bulbs directly to the circuit board; it's not something you can just unscrew and replace like a typical light bulb.  Here's the site:
