Car Stereos: follow up advise, two subs, hard as hell

Question
Hi Brian, it's me again, the pain in the neck! I was just wondering about the past advise you'd given about my set-up. (lanzar 256/thunder 8000 12" 8 ohm) You told me try and get another one at 8 ohms if I wanted to double my amps power, but I couldn't find one. The one hits hard as hell and I like it, but I got another to put in car, this is a 10" dvc  4 ohm. Just for kicks, since a 4 ohm dvc sub can wired for 8 ohm in a series set-up, can I pair this sub with  the 12 somehow to double the power output? Thank you again in advance, and you're past advise was really helpful also!!!!!!!

Answer
Hi Jesse,

Yes, you can safely connect a 4-ohm DVC sub, wired as an 8-ohm load, in parallel with your existing 8-ohm sub.  This will increase the amp's power output, but remember that the power produced will be divided between the two subs, so it won't make your existing sub play louder--you'll just be adding the output of the second sub, so you should get more bass.  It's hard to predict how much of a difference you'll hear.  The two subs probably won't have exactly the same output level, and I wouldn't put them in a box where they're sharing the same air space--you'll want to use separate boxes or at least separate chambers.

Generally, mixing different subs is frowned upon because you can't really predict the results.  However, you certainly won't damage anything by trying it, so go ahead and see how it works for you.

Hope this helps!

Brian
