Car Stereos: subs and amplifiers, pioneer subs, 2006 mitsubishi eclipse

Question
Exactly what pioneer amplifier do i need for 2 TS-W308D4 Pioneer Subs?
12-inch Champion Series subwoofer with 1400 Watts maximum (400 nominal) power handling
Basalt/carbon fiber reinforced IMPP cone with fiber-woven radial surround
Dual 4-ohm voice coil for 2 or 8 ohm operation
20 Hz to 180 Hz frequency response with 90 dB sensitivity
Watts MAX. Music Power: 1400 Watts
Watts Nominal Power Handling: 400 Watts

I have a 2006 mitsubishi eclipse...are 2 of these subs too much? would one be better? I'm asking if two of those specific subs are too much because i don't want my car to rattle or vibrate or sound shitty

Answer
What do you mean? There's no such thing as too much! =]

Those Eclipses have the ability to get very loud on a small, efficient setup. As with any system though, you will run into external vibration. This panel fatigue can be dampened with a sound deadener (Second Skin, Dynamat, etc..). I know it's expensive, but it holds true to its claimed niche in car audio. In 99% of cases, you will also see a gain in ambient volume/SPL. Since you are not going for competition, I will leave out the explanation of that 1% who don't.

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to eliminate vibration completely. Every car is different, so you may experience a very unpleasant rattling, or none at all. Expanding foam is a very cheap way to do some minor strengthening in your door or hatch guts. It will hold, bond, and brace while being covered by the interior panels. Be wary of where you put it though because you may need to remove parts of it for future repairs (i.e. tail lights, locking mechanism, etc.).

I do not deal with Pioneer brands much since they are highly overrated, while remaining CEA compliant. I can give you some of my recommendations for other amp companies to look into, because I don't want to give you recommendations of amps I have never worked with.

These are just a few companies I have worked extensively with, and will prove to be a better amp than you can find elsewhere. These are all used during IASCA World Finals and have proven themselves both in the lanes and with my fellow competitors.
