Car Stereos: new radio install, pontiac sunfire, 2001 pontiac sunfire

my boyfriend got me a new sony aftermarket stereo to put in my 2001 pontiac sunfire and his best friend offered to install it for us as he had done his himself , but when he did he couldnt find a wiring harness to hook up to the stock harness so he just took it off but now he cant wire the stereo because the colors arent what he was told they would be. what should i do or is there a way to find out what the color wires mean?

You're going to want to take the unit to someone who knows what they're doing.

Put the OEM harness back, and then get an aftermarket one.  They're readily available just about anywhere.  He should never have cut the OEM harness.  Never ever ever do that.
