Car Stereos: Install Dual XD1222 into KIA, kia sorento, 2003 kia sorento

Question
I am trying to install a new stereo into my 2003 Kia Sorento but can't seem to find a wiring diagram. Do I really need this or is there something else I can do. Please help me and thanks.

Answer
Hi Renee,

The best way to install your new head unit is to purchase a wire harness adapter that fits your factory radio plug.  The adapter harness' colors should match the wire colors in the plug that comes with your Dual head unit; all you need to do is splice the wires, matching the colors, then plug the vehicle radio plug into the harness.  This is a much better option than cutting off the factory radio plug, and trying to connect directly to the vehicle wiring.

Your Sorento may have been equipped with a 2" tall, "single-DIN" factory radio, or a 4", double-DIN unit.  The wiring harness you need will depend on the type of factory radio you have.  If you have the single-DIN head unit, then look for a Metra 70-7301 harness.  If your stock radio was double-DIN, you'll need a 70-2003 harness.

I'd suggest taking your factory radio directly to a car audio shop to purchase an adapter harness.  Then the store can look at the factory radio plug and choose the harness that matches.

Hope this helps!
