Car Stereos: radio instalation, alpine radio, chevy tahoe

I have a 2001 Chevy tahoe, we were trying to install an after market alpine radio. Radio hooked up, playing but no sound coming out! What can be the problem? A person told me it could be the On-Star system that might effect it, there is a unit i would need in order to do it right. is that true?

Greg, Normally, when someone hooks up their radio and they do not hear the sound.  It is usually a short or the amp not being hooked up.  First, I would call crutchfield.com and ask them what you need to hook up a radio in your car.  They will have all the up-to-date information for your car.  If they do not recommend anything different, then I would consider pulling the unit out and taking to the stereo shop and having it bench tested.  Between the two, you should have a better direction to go.  Hope this helps, Scott
