Car Stereos: Car Stereo, antenna wire, fm channels

Question
The sound from my car stereo  works fine for the AM channels and the cassette tapes.  On the FM channels the sound is very low.  This just recently happened.  What caused it and how can it be fixed?

Thank you

Chris

Answer
Chris, Most times, when this happens, it is a loose or broken antenna wire.  The wire may have come loose from the stereo, but most likely, there has become a break somewhere in the line.  Unfortunately, there is no way to spot the break, because it happens inside the shielding.  The only way to test if that is the problem is to connect a new antenna wire to the radio and see if the FM works properly.  Am works fine, because it does not use that antenna to receive channels.  Hope this helps, Scott
