Car Stereos: car stereo, new hyundai, hyundai coupe

Question
QUESTION: i have 2 stereos that worked in other cars but wont work in my hyundai coupe there is power to the stereos but they dont turn on i hope you can help as im from the uk not the states

ANSWER: richie,  It sounds like a wiring harness adapter problem.  Probably, your new hyundai has a computer controlled remote wire.  It requires a special wiring harness adapter with an electronic turn-on built in.  If your current adapter does not have any electronics on it, then you probably have the wrong one.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: thanks for the reply all the wiring seems to be there, i tried bench testing it by connecting it to a battery but still nothing. my coupe is a 1997 gen 1 and the wiring harness looks the same as my other cars. is there any way of testing the stereo to make sure it does work. ive checked the fuse and its good

Answer
If you did connect it directly to a battery and it didnt work, there is probably something wrong with it.  I would take it to a local stereo shop.  They have a full set of wires to connect it properly, and they will tell you what is the problem with the unit, usually at a minimal charge like $10 - $20.  Also, if you want to check your current setup, you can hook the red wire up to the same wire the yellow wire is hooked up to.  It should power the radio right away, and should work just fine.  If it does not power on, then it is definitely something inside the unit.  Good Luck, Scott
