Car Stereos: 2004 durango, rear seat entertainment system, factory radio

Question
Can the factory radio be replaced and still retain the rse system.

Answer
Hi Terry,

Sorry, but I couldn't find very definite information on replacing the factory radio and keeping the rear seat entertainment system in this vehicle.  I suspect you could do a very basic integration, keeping the overhead screen working and connecting the DVD audio to a rear auxiliary input port on the new head unit; but chances are you'd need to relocate the factory radio and keep it wired into the system to make this work.  Most newer Chrysler vehicles use data signals to integrate the various OEM audio components; without some sort of after-market adapter (and I don't know of one) the only way to get the right data commands to the rear seat unit would be to keep the factory head unit wired into the data bus system.

Unfortunately, this is mostly speculation; I don't have hard data on the vehicle's RSE wiring, and I don't have a source for a complete wiring schematic.  I'd probably have to do some testing before I could give you a definite answer in this case.

Sorry I can't be more helpful!
